How to record GST  for Customs charges on imports 

Why

When importing high-value items (over $1,000) for business purposes, Customs charge GST separately from the item itself. The GST amount is included alongside other duties and fees. Recording this correctly in Farm Focus helps maintain accurate GST calculations.

Steps to Complete

1. Code the imported item as usual, ensuring the GST type selected is 'exempt'                                                       
2. Code the GST amount to the code 'GST' and select the GST type to 'GST on imports'                                          

By using this method the GST amount will be shown in Box 13 of the Gst report - under the GST on imports heading.
