How to use the Livestock Trading Report

Why use the Livestock Trading Report?

The Livestock Trading Report tracks livestock quantities, kilograms of carcass weight (kgCW) grown, livestock value (per stock class and totals), total production, and production per hectare. It provides insight into livestock performance, helping you assess productivity and make informed decisions.

Data Included in the Report

The report displays detailed information about livestock physical performance, including:

• Opening and closing stock numbers: Sourced from livestock reconciliation for the selected year.

• Opening and closing weights and values for each stock class: Entered in Settings > Production > Livestock values or Livestock weights. For guidance on figures, consult your farm consultant.

• Births, deaths & missing: Sourced from data entered during the selected year.

• Livestock sales & purchases: Includes quantity, weight and value from actuals and planned items, with the ability to open the coded transaction or invoice.

• Hectares: Effective hectares are sourced from Settings > Farm Business > Effective farm area or can be updated via Adjustments in the top right corner.

• Weights: All weight data is shown as carcass weight. Live weights are converted to carcass weight using the yield set in farm code settings for each stock class.

Note: Use the chevrons to expand or collapse livestock movements. You can expand or collapse all categories using the chevrons in the top-left corner, or use the arrow beside each category to manage them individually.

Once expanded, click the View icon  at the end of a coded line to open a window displaying the details of that transaction. From here, you can click Edit to make changes if required.

How to create the report

1. Go to Reports > Livestock Trading.

2. Select the data source:

   • Actuals + Plan: Select the revision month.

   • Actuals: Shows only actual data.

   • Plan: Select the year and plan.

Within the report you can:

1. Use the Filter icon (top right) to filter by category (e.g., Sheep or Beef) or tag.

4. Use the View icon (top right) to update the effective hectares for the report.

• If filtering by management tags, update the effective hectares for each farm block to ensure accurate reporting on production per hectare.

Understanding the Report

The report includes the following sections:

• Summary Section: Shows opening and closing totals and differences for quantity, carcass weight, and value. Adjust the level of detail to view totals or individual transactions.

• Sales and Purchases Section: Displays quantities, kgCW, and value for livestock movements. A negative value indicates more sales than purchases.

• Total Production Section: Shows production per hectare, combining sheep and beef production. The calculation considers non-financial events by taking Opening - Closing + Sales - Purchases.

• Reconciliation Summary: Summarises the stock reconciliation for the financial year.

TIP: If you need to update the yield, visit Settings > Codes > Farm Codes and edit the stock code.

NOTE: The report displays data for a full financial year, based on invoice/event date, regardless of payment date. For example (presuming a 30 June financial year end date), a sale made on 30 June 2024 will be recorded in the 2023/24 financial year, even though the payment is received in July in the 2024/25 year.
