How to Create Code Split Rules

What Are Code Split Rules?

Certain farm expenses have a portion of GST that can be claimed as a business expense, while the rest is personal.

Code split rules automate these transactions, ensuring accuracy and saving time. You can also use them to split a single coded line into multiple codes or tags.

NOTE: We strongly recommend consulting your accountant to confirm the portion of business GST you can claim on farmhouse expenses.

How to Create a Code Split Rule

1. Go to Settings.

2. Click Codes > Code split rules.

3. Click + Add new rule.

4. Type in the category and extended code you want to split.

   • TIP: Start typing a keyword (e.g., "House"), and Farm Focus will filter the code list for easy selection.

1. Enter the following details:

   • Category and extended code for the first line of your rule.

   • GST type that applies.

   • Description for reference.

   • Tags (if used for in-depth analysis).

   • Percentage for the split (a new line will be created until the total reaches 100%).

2. Click Save. You're all done!

What Happens Next?

Each time you use this code, Farm Focus will automatically split the transaction or invoice line according to the rule.

Common Code Split Rules

GST and House Electricity

If you work on the farm, you may be able to claim 20% of your household electricity bill as a business expense.

• 20% of the expense is tax-deductible (Business GST type).

• 80% is non-deductible (Personal GST type).

Set this up in Settings > Codes > Code split rules.
